How to simplify a ratio

How this works
The ratio is simplified by dividing both numbers by their greatest common divisor (GCD). For decimal inputs, both values are first scaled up to whole numbers before simplifying.
Example: 24:36 shares a GCD of 12, so it simplifies to 2:3.

Divide both parts by their greatest common divisor. For 15:25 that is 5, so the ratio simplifies to 3:5.
Can I simplify a ratio with decimals, like 1.5:2.5?
Yes. The numbers are first scaled up to whole numbers (15:25), then simplified, giving 3:5.
How do I share an amount in a ratio?
Add the parts of the ratio, divide the amount by that total, then multiply by each part. £100 in the ratio 2:3 is £100 ÷ 5 = £20 per part, so £40 and £60.
What does a screen ratio like 16:9 mean?
