How to play Battleship

  1. Choose Vs Computer or Vs Human, then place your five ships or click Randomise.
  2. Take turns firing a shot at a square on the enemy grid.
  3. Sink every enemy ship to win.

About this game

Standard 10×10 Battleship with the classic five-ship fleet: Carrier (5), Battleship (4), Cruiser (3), Submarine (3), and Destroyer (2). Place your fleet manually or hit Randomise, then take turns firing one shot each — no bonus shot on a hit. Sink an opponent's entire fleet to win.

In pass-and-play mode, a hand-off screen appears between every placement and every turn so whoever currently has the device never sees the other player's board until they've actually handed it over.

Questions about Battleship

Which ships are in the fleet?

Carrier (5 squares), Battleship (4), Cruiser (3), Submarine (3) and Destroyer (2).

Do I get another shot if I hit?

No. Each player fires one shot per turn, hit or miss.

What is a good strategy?

Fire in a checkerboard pattern to find ships with fewer shots, then fire around each hit to finish the ship.

Can two people play on one device?

Yes. A hand-off screen appears between turns so neither player sees the other’s board.
