How to split a bill by what each person ordered
- Click + Add person for each diner and enter what they ordered.
- Add any tax not already in the prices, and choose the tip.
- Read what each person owes, with tax and tip shared fairly.
How it's calculated
Each person's subtotal is their share of the items total. Tax and tip are added to the bill, then divided across people in proportion to their subtotal share — someone who ordered a £40 main pays more of the tax and tip than someone who ordered a £10 side. Shares are rounded to the penny (or your currency's smallest unit) so they always add up to the total exactly; any odd pennies go to the people whose shares were rounded down the most. Nothing entered here is sent to a server.
Questions about splitting bills
How is the tax and tip divided?
In proportion to what each person ordered. Someone who had a £40 main pays more of the tip than someone who had a £10 side.
Will the shares add up to the bill exactly?
Yes. Shares are rounded to the penny, and any odd pennies are assigned so the total is exact.
What about shared dishes?
Divide a shared starter or bottle of wine between the people who had it, and add each part to their items.
Can I just split the bill evenly?
Yes, with the tip calculator, which splits the total equally between any number of people.
