About this tool
Your browser decodes the image, then it is re-encoded in the format you pick with the same WebAssembly codecs as Google's Squoosh app, running in a background worker. PNG is lossless — best for screenshots, logos and anything with sharp edges or transparency — and is run through OxiPNG to make it as small as possible without changing a pixel. JPEG (encoded with MozJPEG) opens everywhere. WebP is smaller and supported by every current browser. AVIF is usually the smallest of all, often half the size of a JPEG, though it takes longer to encode and some older apps can't open it. For the lossy formats the slider trades quality against file size.
Converting also removes the photo's metadata (camera details, GPS location). Nothing is uploaded anywhere — the file never leaves your device.
Questions about image formats
How do I convert a PNG to JPG?
Choose the PNG, pick JPEG and click Convert & download. Transparent areas can’t be kept in JPEG, so use PNG or WebP if you need them.
How do I convert WebP to JPG or PNG?
Choose the WebP file and pick JPEG or PNG. It works for any image your browser can open.
Which format should I use?
PNG for screenshots, logos and transparency; JPEG for photos that must open everywhere; WebP or AVIF for the smallest files on websites.
Does converting lose quality?
Converting to PNG is lossless. JPEG, WebP and AVIF are lossy; at 90% quality the difference is hard to see.
