About this tool
A .ico file can hold several resolutions of the same icon in one file, so the browser, taskbar, or OS can each pick the size that fits — that's different from the Favicon Generator, which produces separate PNG files. Pick the sizes you want, and they're all packed into a single downloaded file, built directly with a from-scratch ICO writer (each entry is a standard PNG image embedded in the ICO container, the same approach modern browsers and Windows use for icons above 8-bit colour).
Nothing is uploaded anywhere — the image never leaves your device.
Questions about ICO files
What is an ICO file?
The Windows icon format, also used for favicon.ico. One .ico file can hold several sizes, so Windows and browsers pick the one that fits.
Which sizes should I include?
16 and 32 pixels for a favicon; add 48 and 256 for a Windows desktop or app icon.
Do I still need favicon.ico?
Modern browsers also accept PNG and SVG favicons, but favicon.ico is still the safest fallback. The favicon generator makes the PNG sizes too.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The ICO file is built in your browser, so the image never leaves your device.
