About this tool

Streams of random katakana, numbers, and symbols fall down the screen at random speeds, each column fading to black behind a bright leading character — the classic "digital rain" look. Runs entirely on an HTML canvas with requestAnimationFrame, redrawn continuously while the tab is visible.

Works as a genuine ambient screensaver, a desk prank left running full-screen, or a screen-share gag. Press Escape, or click anywhere, to exit full screen.

Questions about Matrix rain

What is Matrix rain?

The falling green code from the film The Matrix: streams of characters running down a black screen.

Which characters does it use?

Japanese katakana, numbers and symbols, like the original effect.

Can I use it as a screensaver?

Yes. Go full screen and leave it running; it keeps animating while the tab is visible.

Does it slow my computer down?

Very little. It draws on a single canvas and only animates while the tab is visible.
