How to find what percent one number is of another
- Type the part in the first box, for example

120. - Read the answer: 30 is 25% of 120.
The formula
percentage = (X ÷ Y) × 100
For example, 30 is what percent of 120? (30 ÷ 120) × 100 = 25%. Useful for grades, survey results, completion rates, and comparing a part to a whole.
Questions about working out percentages
How do I work out what percentage one number is of another?
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. For 45 out of 60: 45 ÷ 60 = 0.75, and 0.75 × 100 = 75%.
How do I turn a test score into a percentage?
Divide your mark by the total marks and multiply by 100. A score of 34 out of 40 is 34 ÷ 40 × 100 = 85%.
Can the answer be more than 100%?
Yes. If the first number is bigger than the second, the answer is over 100%: 150 is 125% of 120.
What if the second number is zero?
A percentage of zero can’t be worked out, because you can’t divide by zero, so the tool says so instead of giving a result.
