The formula
Each grade converts to grade points on the standard 4.0 scale (A = 4.0 down to F = 0.0, with +/- variants at 0.3 intervals). GPA is the credit-weighted average: GPA = Σ(grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ(credit hours). Some schools use a slightly different scale (no A+ above 4.0, or different +/- increments) — check your institution's official scale if this needs to match a transcript exactly.

How is GPA calculated?
Each grade becomes points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on), multiplied by the course’s credit hours. Add those up and divide by the total credit hours.
What is a B+ on the 4.0 scale?
3.3. Plus and minus grades add or take off 0.3, so a B− is 2.7 and an A− is 3.7.
What is a good GPA?
3.0 (a B average) is generally solid, and 3.5 or above is strong. Competitive programmes may expect higher.
Why doesn’t my GPA match my transcript?
Schools use slightly different scales, for example whether an A+ counts as 4.0 or 4.3. Check your school’s official scale.
