How to find when a post was created

  1. Paste links or IDs from X (Twitter), Discord, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, Bluesky, Mastodon or LinkedIn, one per line.
  2. For bare numbers, pick the platform or try every one.
  3. Read the exact creation date and time.

How it works

Most large platforms give every post, account and message an ID that starts with the moment it was created, so the ID itself is a timestamp, even if the post has been edited, the date is hidden, or it has since been deleted (if you saved the link). This is a standard open-source intelligence (OSINT) technique for verifying when something was really posted.

X (Twitter) and Discord use "Snowflake" IDs: the milliseconds since the platform's own start date, shifted left by 22 bits (X counts from 4 Nov 2010, Discord from 1 Jan 2015). X IDs from before November 2010 were plain counters with no time in them. Instagram and Threads media IDs work the same way with a 23-bit shift from 2011, and the short code in a post link (instagram.com/p/…) is that ID written in a 64-character alphabet. TikTok video IDs carry the Unix time in seconds in their top 32 bits; Mastodon IDs carry milliseconds in the top 48 bits. Bluesky post keys are "TIDs": 13 characters of base-32 holding microseconds since 1970. LinkedIn post (activity) IDs hold milliseconds in their first 41 bits.

A bare number could belong to several platforms, so with "Try every platform" every reading that lands on a plausible date is shown; pick the platform if you know it. YouTube, Facebook and Reddit IDs don't contain a time. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you paste is sent anywhere.

Questions about post timestamps

How can an ID show when a post was made?

Many platforms build each ID from the moment it was created, so the ID itself is a timestamp, even if the date is hidden or the post was edited.

Does it work for deleted posts?

Yes, if you saved the link or ID, because the time is in the ID itself.

How do I find when a Discord account was created?

Turn on Developer Mode, right-click the user and choose Copy User ID, then paste it here.

Why can’t old tweets be decoded?

X IDs from before November 2010 were plain counters with no time in them.
