About this tool
Adding tax: total = net × (1 + rate ÷ 100). Removing tax works backward from a tax-inclusive total: net = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), with the VAT/GST amount shown as its own line rather than folded into the total — useful when a receipt or invoice only shows the final price and you need to know how much of it was tax.
The region presets are real standard rates (not reduced or zero rates that apply to specific goods like food or books in many countries), current as of this tool's last update. Canada is listed by province since GST, HST, and PST combinations vary — pick the one that matches where the sale happens. Rates change over time and by product category, so treat these as a solid starting point rather than a final word for tax filing.
