About this tool
On load, this tool fetches current exchange rates from a free public API. If the request fails — no connection, a rate limit, or the API being temporarily down — it falls back to a fixed set of example rates so the page still works, clearly marked as example data rather than live rates. Either way, the "as of" date underneath the currency selectors tells you exactly what you're looking at.
Your last-used currency pair is remembered in this browser for next time. Rates for less common currencies can move quickly; for anything beyond a rough estimate, check with your bank or card provider, since actual transactions usually include a spread or fee on top of the market rate shown here.
Nothing you enter here is sent anywhere except the exchange-rate request itself, which carries no personal data — just a request for today's rates.

How up to date are the exchange rates?
Live rates are loaded when the page opens, and the date they apply to is shown under the currency choices. If they can’t be loaded, example rates are used and clearly labelled.
Why is my bank’s rate different?
Banks, card providers and exchange bureaus add a margin or fee on top of the market rate shown here, so you usually get a little less.
Is this the rate I’ll get when travelling?
Use it as a guide. Paying in the local currency by card is usually cheaper than letting a shop or cash machine convert for you.
Is my information sent anywhere?
Only a request for today’s rates, which contains no personal data. The amounts you type stay in your browser.
