About this tool

Pace is your total time divided evenly across the distance, assuming a steady, even effort — it won't match a real race where pacing varies with terrain and fatigue, but it's a useful target for training runs. The split table shows the cumulative time you'd be at if you hit each kilometre at exactly that even pace.

Questions about running pace

How is pace calculated?

Divide your time by the distance. A 5 km run in 25 minutes is 25 ÷ 5 = 5:00 per kilometre, which is about 8:03 per mile.

What pace do I need for a sub-2-hour half marathon?

A half marathon is 21.1 km, so under 2 hours means about 5:41 per kilometre (9:09 per mile) or faster. Enter 21.1 km and 2:00:00 to see the splits.

What pace is a 4-hour marathon?

About 5:41 per kilometre, or 9:09 per mile, held for 42.2 km.

What are splits?

The time on the clock as you pass each kilometre at an even pace. Use them to check you’re on target during a race.
