About the test
If you see yourself, your camera works in the browser, so it will work in video calls in this browser too. The details show what the camera is actually delivering, which is often less than its box says: many laptop webcams sold as HD send 1280×720 or lower, and frame rates drop in dim light as the camera lengthens each exposure. "Ask for" requests a resolution; the camera picks the closest it can do.
If it doesn't start: allow camera access in your browser's address bar (the camera or lock icon), close other apps that might be using the camera (Zoom, Teams, FaceTime), check for a privacy shutter or a camera key on your keyboard, and on a Mac check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera. Device names only appear after you've allowed access once. The video is processed only on your device: it's never uploaded or recorded, and snapshots are saved only if you download them.
Questions about webcams
Why isn’t my webcam working?
Allow camera access in the address bar, close other apps using the camera (Zoom, Teams, FaceTime), and check for a privacy shutter or camera key on your keyboard.
Why is my HD webcam showing a lower resolution?
Many laptop webcams sold as HD send 1280×720 or less. Try asking for a higher resolution; the camera gives the closest it can.
Why is my frame rate low?
Cameras lengthen exposures in dim light, which cuts the frame rate. More light usually fixes it.
Is the video recorded or sent anywhere?
No. It stays in your browser, and snapshots are only saved if you download them.
