How to set an online timer

  1. Tap a quick preset to start straight away, or type the minutes and seconds.
  2. Click Start. Use Pause and Reset as needed.
  3. When time is up you hear a tone, the tab title flashes and, if you allowed it, a notification appears.

About this tool

The countdown tracks a real end timestamp rather than just decrementing a counter each second, so it stays accurate even if the tab is backgrounded or the browser throttles timers for a while. When it reaches zero it plays a short tone, flashes the browser tab's title, and — if you've granted permission — shows a system notification, so you don't have to keep the tab in view.

Nothing here is sent to a server — the entire timer runs as JavaScript in your browser tab, and stops if you close the tab.

Questions about the timer

Will the timer still go off if I switch tabs?

Yes. It counts down to a fixed end time, so it stays accurate in the background, and the tone, flashing tab title and notification tell you when it’s done.

How do I get a notification when it ends?

Allow notifications when your browser asks. Without permission you still get the sound and the flashing tab title.

Does it work if I close the tab?

No. The timer runs in the page, so keep the tab open, even in the background.

Can I use it for cooking or the gym?

Yes. It works on phones too; for repeated work and rest periods, the Pomodoro timer cycles automatically.
