About this tool
Your signature goes onto the page as a picture with a see-through background, so lines and boxes under it still show, the way ink would. Text and dates are written as real text in a standard font, sharp at any zoom. Everything else in the PDF stays exactly as it was.
Sign as many places as you need, on any page, or put your initials on every page with Copy to every page. Pages turned sideways work too: what you place appears upright, where you put it.
The PDF is opened and signed in your browser and never uploaded. Your signature is forgotten when you close the page, unless you tick “Remember it on this device”, which keeps it only in this browser, for next time.
Questions about signing PDFs
Is a signature added this way legally valid?
For most everyday documents (contracts, forms, letters, agreements), yes: in the UK and EU an electronic signature like this is generally accepted (the Electronic Communications Act 2000 and the eIDAS regulation). Some documents, such as deeds that must be witnessed, or wills, have stricter rules. If you’re not sure, ask whoever sent you the document.
Is this a “digital signature” with a certificate?
No. It adds your signature to the page, as signing on paper would. Certificate-based digital signatures need an identity certificate from a provider; if a document asks for one, it will say so.
Is my PDF or signature uploaded?
No. The PDF and your signature stay on your device; nothing is sent anywhere. You can check: the privacy line at the bottom of the page counts requests to other sites live.
Can I sign on my phone?
Yes. Draw your signature with your finger, then tap the page where it goes. Turn your phone sideways for a bigger signing box.
Why does it say the PDF is protected?
Some PDFs are locked against changes with a password. Remove the restriction first (you’ll need the password), then sign it.
