About this tool
If the end time is earlier than the start time, check "End time is the next day" to have it treated as crossing midnight (e.g. 22:00 to 06:00 becomes an 8-hour overnight span) — without it, an end time earlier than the start is flagged as invalid rather than silently guessed at.

Subtract the start from the end. From 08:45 to 17:15 is 8 hours 30 minutes.
How do I calculate hours over midnight?
Tick the next-day box. 22:00 to 06:00 is then 8 hours. Without it, an end time earlier than the start is flagged rather than guessed.
How do I turn hours and minutes into decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60. 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours, which is what most payroll systems use.
